Rupert Grint is making a return to the wizarding world as he reprises his iconic role of Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” This marks Grint’s return to the character over a decade after the last Harry Potter film was released. He will be part of the cast for a 17-week run, starting in February 2027. Grint originally portrayed Ron Weasley across all eight Harry Potter films, where he starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.
Reflecting on his return to the character, Grint expressed excitement about reuniting with Ron at this stage of his life. “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life,” Grint shared, noting that both he and Ron are now fathers, which adds a new layer to the role.
The announcement of Grint’s return follows Tom Felton’s reprise of his role as Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton is set to continue his performance through January, bridging the gap between the original film cast and the stage adaptation. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first premiered in London in 2016 and has since expanded to various international locations, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide. The New York production has alone generated more than $532 million in sales.
Grint’s stage career, which began with his Broadway debut in the comedy “It’s Only a Play” in 2014, has seen him take on roles in productions like “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn” since his Harry Potter days. His return to the magical universe coincides with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, which aims to introduce the beloved story to a new generation of viewers.
