Typhoon Champi has brought significant travel disruptions to Taiwan, leading to the cancellation of 977 flights and the suspension of 96 ferry services as the storm nears the island. The cancellations span both domestic and international flights, with Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport experiencing a particularly high impact, seeing 596 flights called off overnight.

Airlines such as EVA Air and Starlux Airlines have adjusted their schedules due to the extreme weather. EVA Air cancelled all scheduled long-haul flights between Taiwan and destinations in Europe and the United States, while Starlux Airlines opted to operate only select long-haul flights to various international destinations. Passengers have been advised to check for updated flight schedules, as further delays or rescheduling might occur based on changing weather conditions.

Maritime transportation has also been affected, with nine ferry routes completely suspended. This includes services between Keelung and Matsu, as well as several routes linking Taiwan with Chinese coastal ports and domestic connections such as those between Kaohsiung, Magong, and Green Island. The Kinmen-Wutong ferry route is operating on a reduced schedule, with 10 sailings continuing and 14 being cancelled.

The disruptions underscore the impact of Typhoon Champi on Taiwan’s aviation and maritime networks. Travellers are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring official updates as the storm progresses.
