Taipei is set to embark on a significant educational transformation as Mayor Chiang Wan-an unveils a comprehensive four-year initiative focused on artificial intelligence. With an investment of NT$9.2 billion (US$288 million), this ambitious plan aims to equip classrooms with modern technology and prepare students for a future dominated by AI advancements.
Central to this initiative is the installation of smart screens in every classroom, coupled with the enhancement of digital learning platforms through AI-powered assistants. The project also includes the improvement of AI teaching tools and the creation of a specialized AI Education Center at Beitou Shilin Technology Park. This center will play a pivotal role in coordinating teacher training, developing curricula, and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and industry partners.
The initiative promises to integrate more robotics, drones, and AI-powered technologies into the educational environment. Additionally, it will broaden student access to hands-on experiences with edge computing systems that utilize graphics processing units (GPUs). This practical exposure is designed to enhance students’ understanding and application of cutting-edge technologies.
Beyond technical skills, the program emphasizes the importance of responsible technology use, digital literacy, and data privacy. The revamped learning platform is anticipated to facilitate independent student learning while easing the administrative burden on teachers, particularly in tasks like exam grading.
