The Philippines has decided to extend its visa-free entry program for Taiwanese passport holders, allowing them to visit without a visa for up to 14 days. This policy, which will now be in place until June 30 next year, aims to boost tourism and enhance bilateral exchanges between the two regions. The initiative continues the visa-free privilege introduced last year, which permits short stays without the need for a visa. However, travelers intending to stay beyond the 14-day limit are still required to secure a visa prior to their arrival.
This decision aligns with the Philippine government’s strategy of maintaining reciprocal visa arrangements, as Taiwan also offers visa-free access to visitors with Philippine passports. The Philippines is actively working to draw more Taiwanese tourists by not only promoting its well-known attractions like Palawan but also by highlighting diverse travel experiences across other regions. Additionally, plans to expand flight connections are underway, aimed at making travel between the two regions more convenient.
Data from the tourism sector reveals that in the first five months of the year, nearly 94,000 Taiwanese tourists visited the Philippines. This makes Taiwan one of the leading sources of international visitors to the country. The number of Taiwanese tourists has shown an increase compared to the same timeframe last year, reflecting the positive impact of the visa-free initiative.
Through these efforts, the Philippines hopes to strengthen its appeal as a travel destination for Taiwanese tourists, offering an array of experiences beyond the traditional hotspots. By focusing on improved accessibility and promoting lesser-known destinations, the country aims to diversify the options available to international travelers and foster stronger cultural ties with Taiwan.
