Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Guan-ling has made a significant mark at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China, by securing two silver medals and a bronze in the women’s 57kg category. The 21-year-old athlete showcased her strength in the clean and jerk event, successfully lifting 117kg, 119kg, and 125kg. Her impressive 125kg lift earned her a silver medal in this discipline, while her combined total lift of 215kg secured another silver. Additionally, Chen achieved a bronze medal in the snatch category.
Chen’s performance at this championship represents an improvement over her results from the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships, where she won one silver and two bronze medals. Earlier this year, she also distinguished herself by winning a bronze medal in the same weight category at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
The World Weightlifting Championships, which continue until November 8, are a crucial event for athletes, contributing qualification points towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However, it’s important to note that the women’s 57kg category, in which Chen competes, is not included in the Olympic weightlifting programme, which comprises six different weight classes.
