China has expressed appreciation for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on India’s autonomous foreign policy, following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. The remarks were well-received by Beijing, particularly Modi’s assertion that India’s relationship with China would remain uninfluenced by third-party nations. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized that the key takeaway from the discussions was the mutual interest in maintaining a partnership and supporting each other’s development.

President Xi Jinping highlighted the importance of cooperation between China and India, acknowledging that despite their different national contexts, both countries should prioritize collaborative efforts while addressing their differences through mutual respect and understanding. The dialogue underscored the necessity of managing divergences without allowing them to escalate into disputes.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated that peace and stability along the shared border are crucial for advancing bilateral relations. He emphasized the need for both nations to adhere to existing agreements and understandings regarding border issues, which are fundamental to fostering a cooperative dynamic between the two countries.

Both leaders are committed to seeking a fair and mutually acceptable resolution to the boundary dispute, showing a shared willingness to work towards a peaceful solution. Their meeting signifies a potential shift towards easing long-standing tensions, particularly following the agreement reached in October 2024. This accord facilitated the disengagement of troops from various friction points in the Ladakh sector, marking a significant step in reducing the prolonged military standoff along the Line of Actual Control.
