Xi highlighted China’s commitment to collaborating with fellow BRICS nations to foster peace and address the conflicts in the Middle East. He called upon the bloc to take a proactive approach in resolving international disputes, upholding the principles of sovereignty and non-interference as core values.
The current summit is concentrating on critical issues such as trade, investment, and major global conflicts, as BRICS aims to enhance its influence as a representative of emerging and developing economies. Leaders attending the meeting include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside other BRICS participants.
This gathering is set against the backdrop of several international tensions, including the Iran-US conflict, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and persistent strains in US-China relations. Xi’s attendance marks his first visit to India since 2019, a significant step as China and India strive to mend and improve their bilateral relations after years of friction.
During the summit, Xi and Modi are also expected to engage in bilateral talks, signaling a mutual interest in nurturing diplomatic ties between Beijing and New Delhi.
