During a three-day visit to Belize, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca signed two significant agreements aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Belize. These agreements underscore the strengthening of their longstanding partnership and highlight a commitment to enhance educational and diplomatic ties.

A key component of this collaboration is the establishment of the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy, as outlined in a letter of intent signed by the University of Belize and Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund. This academy will be headquartered at the University of Belize and will focus on technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among Taiwan’s diplomatic partners in the region. Taiwanese universities are set to play an active role in developing the curriculum and planning the faculty for this initiative.

In addition to educational cooperation, Taiwan and Belize have formalized an agreement on diplomatic staff training. This agreement is designed to enhance the professional skills and capabilities of Belize’s foreign service, indicating a mutual interest in strengthening diplomatic relations and professional development.

The signing of these agreements highlights the ongoing commitment of both nations to deepen their cooperative efforts. By focusing on educational and diplomatic initiatives, Taiwan and Belize aim to foster a more robust partnership that benefits both countries and their broader regional interests.
